Aug 24th. 1862.
 
Dear Mother.
I take this opportunity of writing to you that you may know how we are getting along. I am very well now and hope that these few lines may find you enjoying the same blessing. We were mustard in yesterday and recieved our citizen bounty and our clothing. we got one pair of pants one blouse 1 cap one pair of shoes one White and one gray Shirt tow pair of socks. I would like it if you would get me another gray shirt / at the Clothing store and send it down for they are much the best all of the boys are getting one and almost all of the boys are getting heavy hip boots to wear and send their shoes home. if Mr pile has any good ones made i wish you would send me a pair of nomber 9s a good many nails in them. send them wright away for i dont know how long we will stay here. i will write to you as soon as i can find out when we leave here so that you will know wheather to send them things or not. / the regiment is about full now there is a great many men in camp now and are still coming in evry day I will send my clothes home as soon as i can i will have them left at hiram Donleys the captain still thinks that maby we will get home yet. As i have no more to write i will close by asking you to remember me. Your affectionate Son
