William H. Bone to Adrian Bone, 5 November 1862
Nov 5th 1862.
Camp Near Bowling green.
Dear Mother.
I seat myself once more to write you a few lines to let you know that I am well and hope that you are all improving It is rumored in camp this morning that Abe and Henry have gone to their long and silint home but I suppose that you would hear it before I would. I have recieved three letters since I last wrote to you. one from Uncle William that contained that money. one from Alvin. one from Ann and was glad to hear from you. I have not had time to write to since the 24th of Oct. for we have been marching ever since. I expressed $20 to you on the 24th or sam Kersey and I sent 20 apiece to in the same package. I have not heard wheather you got it or not. I wish you would let me know. We have had a pretty long march it is 150 miles from Frankfort to here. but I would not have missed it for a good deal. there is a great many nice sights along the road. one of them is the green river wire bridge that you read of another is the horse cave i went into it. it is about 200 feet from the entrance to the bottom. down there is a spring that would fill a nine inch pipe of runing water all of the time. it was after night when i was init so i could not spend much time but i went back one fork about a quarter of a mile. I did not go into the other one. We expect to move on to nashville in a few days. Ann wrote that she expected this was a wicked she did not miss it for there is a good deal / swearing done hear but thank god I dont think that it has had any bad effect on me for I hate it worse evry day. I dont like to praise myself but it is precious thing to have five or ten minutes by myself to read my testament. I have not heard but one sermon since I left home the last time I would like to hear one. It will not cost you but one cent a paper so I wish you would send me the star or messenger once and a while. I must draw my letter to a close for this time. It is getting very cold i think it is going to storm to night.
Write soon
