Camp near Scootsville, Illinois
Affectionate Mother.
I again seat myself to write you a few lines to let you know that I am well and hope that they may find you and the rest of the folks enjoying the same blessing. we left Bowling green on the 10th and got here on the 11th the last day it was pretty for it rained almost all day and some that had no Rubber blankits got pretty wet. We expect to move in a day or two but we dont know where. Some of the boys are afraid we will be sent to Cumberland Gap for we are on that road / I hope that we will never go there for we are near enough out of the world now. I received the Mittens and the letter that you sent me and was glad to get them. Aunt rachel sent me another pair just lik them. She sent word that if you sent me a pair for me to give the ones she sent to a friend but all of the boys are supplied so I will keep them I expect i will need them before spring you wrote that if I wanted anything to let you know and you would get it for me. I would like to have a vest that closes up all of the way in front and a pair / of socks. Alvin i want you to write and let me know how you are getting along and what you find to do this dry weather. have you got tom wise helping you husk corn or are you trying it yourselves. I would like to be in the corn about two weeks with you but I am here so I have to stay. I just thought the other day how nice it would be to be there and get one of them good oald dinners of pork and Cabbage and potatoes all boiled together and it most made me home sick so I had to quit thinking about it for I never have been home sick and dont want for I / believer it is a pretty bad sickness. Mister Stillwell one of our captains gave us a sermon last sunday and it was a pretty good one. he is a good man and does as near right as he can. As I have nothing of much importance to write I will bring my letter to a close.
