William H. Bone to Adrian Bone, 22 June 1863
Camp Lavergne, Tenn.
June 22nd 63
Dear Mother
It is with pleasure that i again seat myself to write you a few lines to let you know that i am getting along fine and have by the providence of God good health. It is pretty warm here but I dont think that i feel the heat any more than i did at home. we need rain to lay the dust but have plenty of drinking water yet. Nothing of importance going on in camp but are expecting Morgan eather here or at some of the camps about before long. Our forces are attempting to surround him dont know how they will succeed yet he was within eight miles of here satureday.
I will have to relate to you a little circumstance concerning myself We have no Regimental guard now but keep three or four men to pattroll about camp and when they / see any one going away from camp they put him in the guard house and make him do two or three hours work. So yesterday i forgot about the guards and was out of the lines a little piece and the first thing i knew they had me and kept me under guard about four hours. and do a little work. this is the first time that i have been in the guard house and i think the last time.
Ben Jeffery is geting better he is able to run about camp.
I received your letter of the 14th last wensday. also one from Mary
No more to write this time.
From your Son
W H Bone.
There is plenty of blackberries almost ripe here.
Plenty of peaches that will soon be ripe.
I put in your letters because i hate to throw them away and dont know what else to do with them.
