Dear Mother
I now seat myself with pen in hand to let you know that i am in good health. Ben is some better today, if he keeps his spirits up he will get along but he is very easy dishartened, and then he goes down hill again. he is the only one in the hospital at this place of our company there is two back at Gallatin, but we are expecting them up before long. You wanted to know about our rations it is true we have been on short rations for a while past except bread and coffee, but there is a great deal of marketing comes in that we can get by paying our own money for it. the Brigade has come back except one Regiment.

Our company and company E went out on a scout wendesday morning and got back last evening. we captured five rebs, and saw some more but could not get them We were payed off monday we got two months pay i will send it home by mail, ten Dolars at / a time. Alvin i would not ride Fan much i believe untill she is three years old you might ride her a little. be carefull and dont put anything heavy on her. tom Madden asks me about her and the other one evry once and a while. he says he always had his eye on them. he thought they looked so nice. do they look as near alike as they used to? I think you made a good trade with old tom. I expect kit and joe will have to go it now taking the gals buggy riding.

I received your letter and them papers yesterday. What kind of a time do you have mustering i would like to see you you often write that you would like to see me. you dont want to see me any worse than i would like to be there and see you. Emma wanted to wheather we had any meeting to go to. we have preaching sunday morning Bible class in the afternoon prayer meeting in the evening and on wendesday evening. I atend all of them when in camp, there is about twenty in the Bible clas. I believe i have no more to write this time so i must close for this time.
