Camp on the banks of the banks
of the Cumberlain oposite Nashville.
Dear Mother,
I again seat myself for the purpose of writeing you a few words, but what shall i write. There is nothing going on here, everything is as dry as a powder horn except the news that we get from the front, and you know as much if not more about that than i do. We get all of the news here but it goes to Cincinati before we get it all. there is two papers printed here but they get most of their news from Cincinnati papers.
There has been a great many wounded soldiers brought here within a week past. none of them or not many of them are dangerous. almost all of them are wounded in the hand or arm. I suppose that you have heard about Capt Porshall and Lieut Harland being killed. there is several of the 35th wounded boys here. the last they heard from jim Bone he was not hurt. /
Frank Hamilton stoped here last week and stayed over night. he has joined the 35th. We was payed off and i sent $5 and my picture to Uncle did he get or not. I had no other way to send them only by express and i had so little to send i thought that i would risk it by mail. I send you $10 more in this and i will keep $9 for to spend. this is a great place to spend money. could spend three times my wages and hardly see what had gone with it. but i buy but very little about all that i get is some milk at 10 cts per qt for my coffee, and a mess of potatoes once and a while and some apples to eat. Potatoes sell for $2 per bushel and apples $4. My bedfellow told me that if i could not find any thing else to write i might tell you to send a feather bed for us. his name is John Vanhorn.Well i have made out to write a little such as it is. Remember me in your prayers to God that i may live a Religious life. Mother one thing i forgot to tell i believe i have not said any thing about it in my letters before. that is a Christian association in the Regiment Captain Stilwell got up a writing and took it through the Regiment and got all to sign it that would pledge themselves to try and live as faithfull a Christian as we can. he got several to sign it. Well i must close.
From your son Wm H Bone.
