William H. Bone to Alvin L. Bone, 28 January 1864
Jan 28th 1864
Dear Brother,
I seat myself rather hastily this morning to write you a few lines. this a beautiful spring day or it would be a spring day in ohio if it were as pleasant there as it is here. this week throughout has been spring weather.
We have had orders to be ready to march at any moment but we dont expect to leave untill monday next, so I write immediately to you hopeing that you may get this in time to stop the box I wrote for
We expect to go to the / front or nearly so as are ordered to Bridgeport I believe. If we go there it will take us 12 or 15 days to march it and as the Colonel has ishued an order that no men shall march in boots I will not carry mine but will send them and my vest home with John stiddom and some others. they will be sent to A. Lewis's store where you can get them. as I am scant of money you will have to pay the express. If you want to wear them you can but if not please greese them and set away maby I will wear them next fall. I received Mothers letter in due time and I / went tuesday to the hospital to find Elias but he had gone to his regiment he left on friday. the 74th Ohio went through yesterday but did not stop long enough for me to get to see Jeniah st John. I believe I have nothing more to write this time. If we dont leave before sunday I will try and write again. by the way I am well and hearty as could be asked. I will write to you evry chance I have that you may know where we are.
From your Brother
W H Bone.
to A L Bone.
