March 1st and 2nd it rained we marched one day in it. the others we staid in camp. It rained last night also but we did not get wet. We are laying in camp to day to draw rations but expect to move on towards Chattanooga tomorrow where we will stop I cannot tell. there has been but twenty that give out and was left / behind. most of them was new recruits. they could not stand the exposure like them that had been in some time there was 14 recruits come up yesterday Frank and Dan hollingshead was among them. It is almost time for the mail to go out and I have nothing but a lead pencil to write with I will close for this time and write when we get to our journey end. I received a letter and two papers last week. also a letter from sarah Mc cain. pleas tell her.
