William H. Bone to Adrian Bone, 16 September 1864
Camp Dennison
Ward. 2, Division. 1,
Sept 16th 1, 64.

Dear Mother
this appears like a long and lonesome day to me and to pass away the time I will scribble you a few words that you may know how times are here. I suppose that the first thing to interest you is to know how I am getting along. My general health is good except with a sore jaw from a rotten tooth. My wound is healthy again and doing fine as can be. As for the camp / and our mode of living here I cant complain. We have plenty to eat though not much variety. still it is better than we had at Louisville. The whole camp ground in the rear of the Hospitals is planted in truck of almost all kinds which affords us some vegitables. And in the front of our Division there is a nice flower garden that makes camp very pleasant in the evenings. Mr squier wrote me a letter last week and wanted me to try and get home next sabbath to / communion but I cannot get there as I would like to I could come but it would be dishonorable. some days ago they would give 48 hours pass which would of been long enough for me to come home but now they only give twelve (12) hour passes. I could come home on that and stay two or three days longer and might not be missed, but if I should I would have to go in the gard house as long as I were gone. yet there is some of the boys runs the risk and sometimes stay away a week and nothing is / done with them. I dont want to come home untill I can come without feeling afraid all the time. I should like to see some of you down. it does not cost much and it would pay me if it dont you. For if you should come I would ask you to bring your dinner along and enough for me they dont allow citizens in the camp only from 9 to 6 oclock and furnish their own grub and you have to get a pass at the Provost marshalls office close by the gate to get in. I will close for this time. Yours truly
Wm H Bone.    To A Bone.
