William H. Bone to Alvin L. Bone, 1 May 1865
Johnsons Island.
May 1st 1865
Respected Brother,
This Sabbath noon finds me with casting a few thoughts on scrap of paper for I trust your happy perusal. My mind was just carried to what I supposed your present position to be that is, just returning from Church after hearing I hope a sermon suitable to all its hearers. I did not get to tend Church this forenoon I was on gard yesterday / and last night and did not get relieved untill nine oclock this morning. then there was a regular routine of cleansing to go through to prepare myself for Parade this evening. Well what I was about to say is that I should like very much to be an occupant of one of those seats riding towards home converseing perhaps on the sermon or something of the kind. all this is useless but it does me good sometimes to imagine myself so comfortably situated.
Well there is no news here more than what you can get daily except almost a thousand rumors about this Regt. being discharged soon but none of them reliable.
The weather for two or three / days has been quite pleasant. It is the first spring weather we have had here.
As news is scarce I will not write much this time.
This leaves me in excelent health.
Give my respects to all.
Most respectfully yours
Wm H Bone.
To. A. L. Bone.
P.S.
Please excuse dirty paper.
