William H. Bone to Alvin L. Bone, 5 July 1865
Crestline Ohio.
July 5th June 8th 1865.

            Dear Brother,
I had thought all along untill last evening that I had writen my last letter to you while in the service, but now that pleasant hope is blasted, for a while yet at least. Thank God I have the privalege of converseing with you by the pen, and cannot be deprived of that privalege very easily. my expectations were to be at home next satureday and every thing looked favorable untill last night we received orders to go back to that forsaken place Johnsons Island and will leave here at noon / noon today. I have packed up some things in a box and expressed to you. the articles in detail are one overcoat, blanket, one pair socks, a spy glass, Bible and gloves, with a basket of my own building. it is not finished yet but if Mother and Emma wish to use before I come home to finish they can. I intended it for a card basket. where that string is around it, there will be a nice small wire. Perhaps you and the others will think I am getting negligent of my duties by sending my Bible home. the reason why I do this is that while on the Island the Chaplain of the post presented me a nice reference / Bible and as I thought it useless to carry both, I send my old one home. As I have but little time to write this morning I will close and write again we are settled on the Island.

This leaves me in very good health. Your letter with the two Dollars was duly received also one from Emma dated June 30th

may prosperity and hapiness be with you all and we soon be permited to join hands in fellowship.

Farewell,
Truly ever yours
Wm H Bone.
To A L Bone.
