William H. Bone to Adrian Bone, undated
Toms Cabin.
Well Mother here comes a hard thing for me to ask of you, but I shall have to do it. that is Please send me some money. Our rations are very poor here and it is hard to come down from high living I might call it to this, while every thing is so cheap Butter sells at 25cts per lb. and other things in perportion. beside I need money anyhow. Please send me a little in each letter or express about ten Dollars. I leave that to your pleasure. The probability is that I will not be payed untill my time is out. Show this to Uncle William. /

I had become greatly attatched to some of the boys there, I dont know but what as much as ever I was with the boys at the Regt. But a soldier must expect to be shifted about and get in all sorts of company. My Prayer is that I may ever stand fast to my vows before God and live an humble faithful Christian, so that when I appear before the judgement seat I will not receive the awful sentence, Depart from me I never knew you, and may Gods blessings rest upon each of you that you may meet me around that happy throne.
