Mrs Kemp
Your letter dated Feb 19th 1865 reached me this morning and I take this time to write you a few lines in answer.

Your Husband was probably taken prisoner as we have heard nothing about him since we returned from the raid on which he was lost. I cannot tell where he would be at this time, but as the prisoners are being rapidly exchanged, I hope soon to hear about him. It may be a long time before he gets away, but still I can but feel that there is still a hope that he is alive and will again see his family and friends. If at any time I should receive any information respecting his place of imprisonment, will at once notify you, because I know you must be verry anxious to hear from him.

Trusting that he is well and will soon be with his friends

I am verry truly yours &c
John D Reed
