Dear wife I received your letter the 28 and was very glad to here from you and the rest of the folks and I was very glad to here that my little daughter is well again and all the rest. I am as well as usiel I have a slight cold other wise I am well I had a letter from father the same night I got yours and was very glad to here from them my stepmother is back again father says she is a grateell better and the rest are all well but the best of all was that David has enlisted in the tenth regiment and I hope that his courage will not fail to do his duty towards his country /
 
Dear Cathaline I think often of you and wish that I was with you again but I live in hops that we may meet again keep up good courage and make the time as short as posable the folks in albany writs to thare friends that they talk strong about settling the war if that is the case I hope we will soon meet you wanted to know weather I left my cloths in the baracks or not I did because we didnot get our uniforms untill the afternoon that we started and was not alloud to brake ranks going down thrue the city and thare was no one thare to leave them with you wanted to know what the generls name was I will tell you the names of the / officers generel prat colonel Baker lutenant colonel wilson capten Burhands lutenant [obscured] Second lutenant severence and I also have an offas you spoke about old vosburg I think he actted real mean with you for keepping your chickens the old man lays it to the boys and the boys lays it to the old man but I think thay like to bee hogs all of them you said he charged you almost two dollars for taking a load for you I think that is not to much if you had hiard him but if he offerd his sirves he was mean i will write one letter to them and tell them a little about the war and the rest about hogs I was very glad you sent those / verces to me I can read them over and perhaps find a tune for them and sing it father said that they was telling that they had taken me and david off to murder us if we had gone to war he would not care but I would like to see him but some of the men thinks they will not leave albany you was speaking about courage but a man must have that or he is not worth much Dear lina we must pray for ourselvs and for one another Cathaline when you see this you must excuse me for not writing more write as soon as you can I write weather I receive one or not tell benny to write and a few lines to me in your letter and tell about the mared life no more but I still remain your affectionate husband Isaac Stafford
 
may god be merciful to us all and if we do not meet here I hope we may meet in heven
