Cathaline Stafford (maiden name: Crounse) was born around 1837 in New York to Nicholas and Elizabeth Stafford. Her father was a farmer who owned $4,500 of real estate by 1850. She grew up and attended school in Guilderland, New York, and she married Isaac Stafford on October 21, 1858. They had at least two children: Mary, born around 1860; and Annette, born around 1863. They lived in Duanesburg, New York, and her husband worked as a farm laborer. By 1860, they owned $100 of personal property.
Her husband served in the Union army, and he died in December 1862. She applied for a widow’s pension in June 1863 and eventually received one. She returned to Guilderland in the 1860s, and by 1870, she owned $100 of personal property. She moved to Albany, New York, in the 1870s. She married Elias Westfall around 1882, and they lived in Guilderland. Her husband died in 1917, and she passed away in Stuyvesant, New York, in November 1922.
