Camp Naglee Norfolk Va Aug 21st 1863
Dear Mother
Your letter was recd yesterday, and it was with a great ammount of pleasure that I perused it, for it had been a long, long, time since I had heard from you
I am still in good health, have not lost a day yet from duty by sickness.
We are in Camp upon the grounds of the Old Military Accadamy, situated in the center of the city of Norfolk doing guard and provost duty in the city.
Emeline and two of the children have been with me since the middle of June. went home last week
There is not much sickness in the Regt. I left Geneva one year ago with 101 men. they are all with me now but two who died this month with Typhoid Fever.
I have not heard from Webster since I recd the letter from you. Neither do I hear from Rockwell.
I am glad to learn that Glover escaped injury at Gettesburgh and that he has been paroled and is likely to get a furlough / how anxious Dewitt & Catharine must have been for him untill the news came he was safe. May he always be as succesful
I want you should write as often as you posibly can
It does me a great deal of good to receive letters from you. I have written two letters to Dewitt since I recd his last. he has not recd them
Tell him to write again
Recd a letter yesterday from Emeline they were all well.
Give my love to all, do not fail to write when you are able
From your ever loveing Son
