Wednesday Apr 26 Camp Near Turkey run 1864
Dear Wife
i receivd a letter from you on piket but was unable to answer it becaus we had to stay away from camp a day 48 hours but now i shall take a little time and fill up this sheet you must excues this pencil for i have got nothing to hold the pen in you must not get discouraged for i hope the war will soon be broken up i shall not go to that military school but stay ware i am untill my time is out the wether is very fine out hear now to day was very warm we have plenty to do now and expect to have all sumer but i guess we will not do much / fighting i guess no sight now any how i am looking for your picturs that order about sending no more letters was one of abe sulphans yarns he is the boy to hear news and generel orders you must keep wat money you got i expect to get payed the middle of next month you will have to send me some little notions after a wile but not now i will let you know wat to day i done my first washing one shirt i could have got it done for five cents but it was for the want of the five cents the reason that i done it myself that direction you sent me of Charley Wittick is not right he is in pensylvania at potsville you will find it some ware the last one he wrote me he was / in some rejiment but the first one was in invalid Corps this pencil is so poor that i shall have to stop it is cool hear nights and mornings i shall send you another letter before you get time to answer this pleas send me paper i can get none hear i have stamps enuf i shall send you a picture i found out side of our lines yesterday we went out on a full run after two fellows we saw in the woods and i captured this that is all we got not much but i guess this picture was printed in south carulina other leaves was on it with the owners name you send them portraits i want to see you / once more you need not send any more stamps for sulphan the stamp agent is gone to another encampment remember me in all your prayers if you want to save this letter you will have to write a copy it is not worth saving i guess you have your own troubels but do the best you can i will come home as soon as i can and i do not think i will ever leave you again good bye my dear little wife keep a good heart and look well stand up strait so i have a fine woman to sleep with wen i come back your ever loving Husband H H Covert
