Lucinda Van Pelt was born on January 16, 1839, in New Jersey to Henry Van Pelt. Her father was a farmer who owned $4,000 of real estate and $500 of personal property by 1860. She grew up and attended school in Montgomery, New Jersey, and she married Henry H. Covert on December 28, 1861. They had at least five children: Minna, born around 1863; Mary, born around 1867; Katherine, born around 1875; Llewellyn, born around 1877; and Everard, born around 1882. They lived in Montgomery, and her husband worked as a shoemaker. By 1870, they owned $2,950 of real estate and $500 of personal property. Her husband died on January 20, 1907. By 1910, she was living with her son Everard in Montgomery. A decade later, she was living in her daughter Katherine’s household in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She died of acute bronchitis in Philadelphia on February 5, 1931.
