My Dear Wife
as i have not had a letter from you since the last of Oct i thought i would write you a letter to day i have been so buisy that i have not had time we have been on picket and have been building a house to live in a log cabbin it is not near done but the rest of the boys has gon off on detail and i thought i would go without my dinner and write you a little for i am getting to want some little comforts that you can send me i have so much to do that i can scarcly do it drill twice a day dress parade once thrice stable call and if you do any thing / you have to lose a meal it is hard work i tell you i am glad i am gaining strength or i would not be able to do it but it will be better after a while our old major Janeway is back he is cornel now he does the best he can for the boys i sent you a letter and told you to give ben three dollars i hope you got it for i want wat he is to get most wonderfull you do not know how bad i want the article now i am going to write a letter to father if i have time i want my tools just as i wrapped them up all but the boot irons i do not want them that is for part irons and heel irons he will know but all the rest monney can be made hear at my buisness i want him to put them in a box and express them hear from trenton and i want him to cut the half soles out of my sole lether all he can / if they are pretty poor send them and cut them big enuf from six to nines and send an old pair of last that will do to drive in toes and so on he will know some old last six or seven i do not remember wether i have a pair or not he has a bully old pair i put the tools in my drawer send them as soon as he can the men gets boxes now and i will get the tools some way for i can make money enuf this winter to buy a farm nearly tell him to put all the soles in he can and see that the knifes is ground and be sure to put in a rubber i will write to him and tell him if their is not soles enuf in my lether cut them out of his and you pay him for them and tell me in his letter wat he charges home it is worth as much again hear do not make the box very big but nail it up good and strong put nothing in but tools and lether i want / some patches both kinds but most calf skin now i am in fine sperits i am getting strong and hope i will stay so i hope this will find you well i am very much plesed with my shirt i have not got the other one yet nor my boots or rubber coat i look for them evry mail but i do not even get a letter i hope you have not forgotten me i got a letter from mother and sarah but have not had time to answer them as soon as we get the house done i will make up i expect pap is in the quail i have not heard from you or any one i wonder how my dog works tell me their is more quail down hear than i ever saw befor i catch rabbits in snares now i want you to send me a bully pair of gloves with lining in it is getting cold for my paws and my old ones is no good send me some shoe thread a ball you can send them in the mail for i want them soon wen you send the box be sure to put plenty of 7/8 nailes and 1 lb 5/8
