Dear Wife & Boy
                                    How i long to see you my Dear i receivd your letter to day & will send you another the people are very kind again they have been talking to me so long that i most forgotten the subject how they bother me Barclay is well & i am the same & i hope this will find you the same i knew you would write wen you got the 20$ Ha Ha that fetches the letter i guess i wont send so much this time only 10$ Ha Ha that i think will fetch one pretty soon but not as soon as soon 20. but right smart i recken now missy i the that is i think that you cannot do as well as you can without your Harry but time is coming wen evry thing is all right if we can get the men wat killed Abraham Lincolen news news we had / got six men one of them is a bakers son in this city i know him he was there that night and they think he knows some think he knows some thing about the affair he will catch it i think andy is hevy on them it looks bad to see all the flaggs half mast and all crape around them evry one is sad for the great loss yesterday their was a man shot hear yesterday he said he was glad that abe linken was dead he had not it out of his mouth befor he was dead as Lincolen was you never saw such a time hear copperhead dare not say one word or he is his grave in five minnets evry corner has two soldiers on with orders to shoot any one that comes in the night he has orders to shoot if he does not stop wen first ordered & most of them stop wen invited i tell you Mrs Davison was to see me she is very sick she / has bleeding at the lungs i am going to morrow to see her husband she looks very bad i am very sorry for she is one of the finest wimen in the world i think i promised to go and see her husband yesterday but could not on account of the cars not runing or no passes given could get no pass yesterday or last night but i went out roun the guards how was that Ha Ha now missy i must tell you i am very sorry to tell you to one of the men wat was so kind to me died this after noon with the spotted feaver i wish that transfer would come the feaver is getting bad hear and i may get it if i do good by for me their is not much help for a man wen he gets that he was sick but a very short time i tell you he was a Dane and the best nurce in the hospital i thought so much of him he brought som things for me wen i was wounded i want to write to our people som to night / i think i have not writen yet but i have thought of it often enuf i shall do it anyhow has pool gone to the wells yet i do not think much of him for keeping my boots i did not give them to him i want them if i live but they think i will never get back but they are mistaken i shall return i want them boots my self & i think i ought to have them he had a better chance than me wen i was young and i think he ought to get along as well he thinks he is so smart how the chain galls me to stay hear i can hardly do it but stay i must & how long i know not if i get sick pleas come down and see me i will want to have you if i can and may be i will get over it i am in fine sperits and hope to remain so my wound is better it is healing up & soon will be quite well i hope you must try and get my things to gether and i will try and get my discharge wen i get to Newark if i ever get their if it does not come soon i will write M L Ward a letter & see if he will not have it done i am very tired of being ward master it is an unthankfull job and yet in a hospital it is thought to be an office i could stay my time out hear if i choose but i shall give it up soon and try and get discharged if possible now my Dear wife remember me in your prayers and do send me a letter sent from one you love dearly & truly he loves you with a kiss for the boy and a kiss for you i close my letter by saying adieu
