My Dear Dear Wife
i feel able as long as i am alive to let you know were i am i am still on my back but hope for the better i am very weak and so poor you would not know me i have to rest evry few words that i write i will not weigh 20 lbs i used to lauf at you but your turn has come now my rings will not stay on my fingers hardly i get good care hear the comishion wat you see this paper headed with gives you evry thing you want wat will do you good i have got the dirreaher most terible have to run evry few minnets i have not had a letter from you or any one elce since befor the 4th i should like to hear from home once again if i never see it i suppoes that their is letters to the rejiment but i never see any body from / their the skin is all pealing off my hands my back is so tired all the time i can sit up but very little i am so weak so very weak i cannot bear the weight of my clothes on me nothing but shirt and drawers i cannot think of any thing to write only their is a laidy or two hear they come through the ward to look at us evry day we get a sheet of paper and and envalop evry day if you will send me a stamp or two i will try and send you all the letters i can this hospital is at City point or near their i get nothing to eat but tea and tost that is enuf i did not eat any thing for a weak the doctor is going around now he goes evry day in the forenoon if you still love such a poor skeliton of a man as i am i wish you would answer me a letter i would like to hear from home i sent you a letter Monday but we men are such impation creturs that we cannot wait like our pretty wifes good bye my best beloved / kiss the little boy and remember his sick father in your prayers you must tell mother to write to me tell her were to direct her letters to
