William Muirhead
William Muirhead was born around July 1834 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He immigrated to America around 1852 and settled in Washington, D.C. He supported the Union war effort, declaring that “we must not give up, never in a good cause.”  
 
He married Gracieuse Lohidoy on July 7, 1863, and they had at least five children: Arnaud, born around 1866; Grace, born around 1868; John, born around 1869; William, born around 1874; and Flora, born around 1876. He worked as an engraver, and by 1870, he owned $6,500 of real estate and $400 of personal property. By 1880, he was working as a coal dealer. His wife died on September 3, 1907, and he died in Washington, D.C., on December 14, 1911.
