Alexander Carroll MacNulty
Alexander Carroll MacNulty was born on June 10, 1867, in Culpeper, Virginia, to William and Abigail MacNulty. His father was a Union soldier who served as postmaster of Culpeper after the Civil War. He grew up and attended school in Washington, D.C., and he graduated from George Washington University in June 1887. He worked as a lawyer, and he served as an examiner of claims with the United States Pension Bureau from 1887 until 1890.
He moved to Tennessee around 1894 and then to Brooklyn, New York, around 1898. He was a member of the Democratic Party, and he supported presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan in 1896 and 1900. In 1927, he became New York’s deputy secretary of state. He died in Albany on October 25, 1933.
