Camp in the woods near Petersburg July 23rd 1864
 
Dear Sister
                                                I now write you a few lines to let you know how i get along we have been in the woods for three days. we expect to go to the breast works to night or tomorrow morning. we enjoy ourselvs very well at present. we have not much to do only sleep and cook and eat. I have written so much in Fathers letter that i cant think of any thing interesting to write to you. I intend to send this away tonight. it will be gone before the mail comes in. I expect to get a letter from home to night but i think i wont answer it untill next week. every thing seems to be quiet to day. i supose you are busy raking hay about this time. it is Saturday afternoon and just the time to be in a hurry in the hay field. i supose you will think by the way i write that i expect you to be to work in the hay fields i know Mother wont let you stay in the house. well i cant think if any thing to write to day so i will bring this to a close. write soon and give me all the news. I am well at present hoping this will find you well. I remain your Brother
