John J. Hornor to Hamilton S. Hornor, 18 November 1863
Camp Bragg Nov 18th 1863

Dear Hamilton
I recd yours several days ago and have not written you sooner for want of time & paper. Maj King has been assigned to duty with us and I write by him. You probably did right in reporting to Crawford's Company but you must stay with Capt Fisher as long as he wants you. I tell you candidly that you have not the physical ability to stand Cavalry or infantry service. You have no idea of it and I hope therefore you will stay where you are. You may have hard work, yet all duty in the Army is hard. We have no news here. Every thing is quiet and if you could see the encampment you would think the Army had gone into winter quarters. Every one is building houses or chimneys to their tents. I have a nice chimney and I am very comfortably situated. I send my saddle bags by Maj King to exchange for the valise. I want the valise yet. I hate to part with the saddle bags. Do not exchange them for any account as I may at some time wish to get them again. The valise will suit me now much better and I presume the saddle bags will you. Maj King will bring the valise to me. Remember me to Capt Fisher & wife, also to all my acquaintances with you. If the Capt should come down tell him to come and stay with me.
