Mr. Works.
                        Sir Your favor of 11th ult has just reached me and in reply I regret to have to state that your son Charles C Works is dead He died in 3d Division US Army hospital Alexandria, Va. on the 16th of Sept while enroute for home on furlough. he left New Orelans about the first of Sept. I do not know the exact date He having been left there in Gen. Hospital when the Regt. left for this place since which time I have not seen him and consequently am unable to give you any particulars of his last sickness or his condition when he started for home
