Joseph H. Prime to Hannah E. Snell, 30 July 1864
Baldwin Fla July 30th 1864

Dear Hannah
Yours of July 10th was most gratefully recieved yesterday PM and I was very happy to hear from you once more. We have been out on that raid that I spoke of in my last—since Friday July 22nd—and we have marched all over this part of Florida. We started from Jacksonville and went up the St Johns river on transports 25 miles and then ran up the mouth of Black Creek and landed Friday night and on Saturday the rest of the troops came up and we moved on after a slight skirmish when we crossed Black Creek and stopped one night at the town of Middleburg where there is a two story house and a few out houses and then we came to the Cedar Keys rail road and after tearing up and burning a part of that we went on to the Tallahasse rail road and burned some trestle work some spirits of turpentine and about 1200 barrells of rosin and came round and came in at the rear of Baldwin and have been lying here ever since.

Well I have a very uncomfortable place / to write in and as I have not much more to write at present I will close soon and tell you all about the raid if I ever get back to Jacksonville so with a kiss for you and requesting you to write soon as convenient to you I remain as ever your ever faithful and loving husband
