May 7th 1865
this find me seated for the purpose of writeing a short note telling you that I am again at my old starting point Alexandria Va. I will say I was gone 10 days and I would not begrudg $50 atall for the scen & curiosity of my journey I went to Richmond 2 days & Peetersburg 2 days & stayed at City Point the rest of the time excepting went and stayed with Monroe one night week ago to day which I wrote to you about.
Since I left here I have had on the boat & by R.R. 628 miles ride besides free transportation and all the scene & curiositys of Richmond & Petersburg and seen Uncle E.M.M. which was worth something and earnt $22½ twenty two dollars & fiftey cts. besides clear from all expences now if a man wants to travel any cheaper than that he has got to get up & dust. the voige agreed with my health first rate I am feeling better now than when I left here. I also lay over one night to Fortress monroe and saw 3 big or large monitors there went / all over them & through them One of them had upwards of 5 hundred shots which was received from the enamy.
We are here I dont know what we are agoing to do Some thinks we are agoing to be discharged but I know not what will be done yet.
I have not made up my mind what to go into yet if we are. we are going to Bullrun Crick to morrow to work on the R.R. Bridge. I am not paid off yet We expect it the 15th of this month / this leaving me in good health I now close to send it by morning mail Father how does your Rheumatis get along if you are not any better I spose I had better come home. I received no letter since I wrote before
