Camp near fredricksburg
 
dear sister itake this opertunity to write you afew lines to let you know that iam well at present except a bad cold iresieved your letter of the 12 the 16 and was glad to hear from you and that you was well whe moved down to the river one week ago to day last thursday and that knight about sundown whe crossed the river and held the bank that night without any trouble / the next day while whe lay on the bank the rebel shells began to fly pretty thick and whe picked up our duds and moved up under the hill a little and while whe lay there they was one man killed out of Co h a piece of shell went right through his head that night whe lay there and the next day whe moved to the left in front then the rebels began to let the shells fly at us they flew thick about us and whe moved forward a little / then in the evening whe moved down near the bridge the next day was sunday and whe drew rations and stayed there till Monday morning about three oclock then whe went to the left to suport a battery they did not fire on us that day at all at night whe lay down to rest and about 11 oclock whe had to get up and cross the river Now whe are this side of rappahanack and out of the reach of the rebel guns 
 
imust close for this time for the male is going soon iwill send you that three dollars that you sent me whe have been paid of and isent 20 to you have you got it
