Camp Griffin Jan the 20 1862
 
Dear Parents i got your letter to night and was glad to hear from you and to hear that you was well and hope thes few lines will find you the same now to for I am well to as ever i was in my life and in the letter was your pictures in it to and I was glad to see them to They are jest as natural as life mandy looks pael but that aint nothing thoe tis the mudest time hear that ever i see in old Vermont or eney whare else in my life The mud is jest 10 or 11 inches deap in the road that aint much hear it raines all the time Hear now tis warm too as sumer / We are incamped in a bad place When we came hear our sick list was onley to Now it is 13 and increasing every day John Naylor is lame yet We haint ben paid of yet Dont no when we shall be eather I have signed a lotment role which will be $16 dolars every pay day it will go to the States tresery and i shall send you home after i get the other $10 dolars a check on the State of Vermont and you can get the money at Brandon Bank or eney other one you pleas to get it at
 
jest right all the news & give my love to all my frends /
