Jane White

Jane White (maiden name: Carter) was born into slavery around 1830 in Richmond, Virginia. She met Oliver White on Augustus Jenkins's plantation in Yazoo County, Mississippi, and they probably got married on March 4, 1839, although sources differ on the year of their marriage. They may have had a son named Richard After her husband's Union military service concluded, the couple settled in Vicksburg. Oliver died of dropsy in August 1885, and Jane eventually secured a widow's pension. She was receiving $8 per month by the time of her death on January 15, 1904.
