Catherine Jordan

Catherine Jordan (maiden name: Cochran) was born on June 9, 1851, in Virginia to John Cochran. It is unclear if she was born free or enslaved. By the 1870s, she was living in Ohio, and she married Irwin Jordan on July 19, 1875. They had seven children together: Boma, born around 1876; Irwin, born around 1877; Jane, born around 1879; Mary, born around 1881; Roger, born around 1882; Edna, born around 1884; and Louisa, born around 1895. The family lived in St. Clairsville, Ohio, and her husband earned a living as a laborer. Her husband died on June 19, 1921. She applied for a widow’s pension the following month and eventually secured one. She died in St. Clairsville on November 21, 1923.
