Henry Dial (33rd USCT)

Henry Dial (Dials, Dyall) was born around 1838 in Albemarle County, Virginia. Little is known about his life before the war, although he listed his occupation as laborer on his service record. Dial enlisted in the army at the age of 27 as a private on April 28, 1865, and mustered in on May 3 in Savannah, Georgia. Dial’s service record describes him as 5 feet, 7 inches tall, with black hair, black eyes, and a black complexion. He served in Company C of the 33rd USCT Infantry Regiment. Dial’s regiment served in Savannah, Georgia, until June 6, 1865, when it moved to Augusta, Georgia. Dial mustered out on January 31, 1866, with the rest of his regiment. Nothing else is known about his life after the war.
