Joseph Falwell (11th USCT)

Joseph Falwell was born around 1824 in Albemarle County, Virginia, and enlisted in the Union army on January 11, 1864, at Fort Pickering in Memphis, Tennessee. At the time of his enlistment, the 40-year-old farmer stood 5 feet, 5 inches tall, with black hair, eyes, and skin complexion. Falwell then mustered into the the 11th USCT Infantry Regiment as a private in Company D on February 24 in Memphis. The 11th USCT assumed its duties in Memphis and in the District of West Tennessee for most of the war. Falwell contracted rheumatism from a gunshot wound he had received before the war, and the army discharged him on October 31, 1864. He never filed a pension for his service, and the details of his postwar life are unknown.
