Miles Lucius (75th USCT)

Miles Lucius was born around 1823 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Little is known about Lucius's life before the war, except that he worked as a farmer. Lucius enlisted at the age of 39 as a private on November 7, 1862, in Bayou Lafourche, Louisiana, and mustered in on November 24, 1864, in New Orleans. His service record describes him as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, with black hair, black eyes, and a black complexion. Lucius served in Company A of the 75th USCT Infantry Regiment. He deserted around May 8, 1864, while serving on detached duty as a teamster in Morganza, Louisiana. The regiment did not discover his desertion until June 8, 1864. Despite this setback, Lucius applied for the removal of the charge of desertion, but his application was rejected on January 5, 1866. He never filed a pension, and little is known about his post-war life.
