Mandy Scott

Mandy (Amanda) Scott (maiden name: Rollins) was born into slavery around July 1849. Her owner, Almon (Sam) Rollins, was also her father. She lived in Montgomery County, Missouri, until her owner brought her to Paynesville, where she remained until emancipation. Her first husband was Price Johnson, with whom she had six children. She married Spencer Carter (post-war name: Scott) on December 23, 1888, in Paynesville in a ceremony officiated by the Rev. Hudson Wallace. Their daughter, Lydia Scott, was born on August 27, 1890. Spencer died in 1899, and Mandy secured an $8 monthly pension in 1902. She also received $2 per month for her daughter. Mandy died of influenza on March 23, 1928, probably in Montgomery County.
