Fanny Tucker

Fanny Tucker (maiden name: Dillard) was born into slavery around 1835 in Virginia. She married William Tucker in Pike County, Missouri, on December 20, 1855. They were both slaves of John Coles Carter, who migrated from Albemarle County, Virginia, to Missouri in 1852 and owned 126 slaves by 1860. The couple had two children: Archie, born September 12, 1857; and Martin, born March 8, 1860. Her husband died on July 20, 1865, and Fanny spent the rest of her life in Pike County, Missouri, and Adams County, Illinois. She applied for a widow's pension on April 13, 1866. On January 22, 1874, the government granted her a pension of $8 per month, plus $2 per month for each of her children. By 1880, she was serving as a housekeeper in Pike County, It is unclear when or where she died.
