Winnie Thomas

Winnie Thomas (maiden name: Fields) was born into slavery around 1819. She married Nathaniel Thomas in a slave ceremony in Marshall, Missouri, around 1842, and they legally married after Nathaniel completed his Civil War service. Winnie gave birth to a daughter named Ann (later Ann Burns) in February 1853. She may also have given birth to a son named Jerry two years earlier. After the war, the family remained in Saline County. Winnie died on January 12, 1889.
