Caroline Watson

Caroline Watson (maiden name: Irwin) was born into slavery. She married Abner Carter (alias Abner Watson) on June 20, 1856, on the Carter plantation in Lincoln County, Missouri. They had three children together: William, born April 15, 1854; Sylvia, born May 14, 1857; and Robert, born October 14, 1860. She applied for a pension after her husband's death, and pension agents granted her $8 per month, plus $2 per month for each of her children. She died on September 9, 1869.
