Cary Ann Price

Cary Ann Price (Cary Ann Watson, Cary Ann Jackson, Cary Ann Thompson) was born into slavery in Richmond, Virginia. Her owner was John Coles Carter, who moved from Albemarle County, Virginia, to Missouri in 1852 and owned 126 slaves by 1860. Cary married Isaac Price sometime around 1863 on Lick Farm in Lincoln County, Missouri. Her husband enlisted in the Union army, and she moved to Quincy, Illinois. According to witness testimony given after the war, he moved to Quincy after the war to reunite with Cary, only to discover that she had given birth to another man's child. Cary, however, testified that she left Isaac because he was interested in other women. Nothing else is known about her life.
