Mary Williams

Mary Williams was born into slavery and married Henry Kettell (post-war name: Williams) in a slave ceremony sometime before the Civil War. They were both owned by William Cacklin (Kachton or Kettell), who lived about thirteen miles from Charlottesville, Virginia. They had three children together, the youngest of whom was named Robert. She died on December 11, 1884, in the Benning neighborhood of Washington, D.C.
