Sarah Ward Winfrey was born on October 22, 1852, in Ohio. She married Lewis L. Winfrey on January 6, 1870, in Clinton County, Ohio. They moved to Paulding County soon afterward, and they had six children together: Lewis H., born October 14, 1873; Parthena, born around 1876; Nancy, born around 1879; Clarence, born March 27, 1881; Daisy Belle, born August 9, 1888; and Eulalie, born July 2, 1891. Her husband died from progressive locomotor ataxia on February 24, 1895. She eventually secured a widow's pension, and she received additional money for each of her minor children. She died in Lorain on August 21, 1933.
