Annie Gillum (maiden name: Smith) was born around 1840 in Virginia. She married James Gillum on January 29, 1875, in Adams County, Illinois. The couple had one daughter together: Nellie G. Brown, born on September 26, 1875, in Quincy, Illinois. In 1880, the family was still living in Quincy, along with 71-year-old Susan Gillum, who was presumably James Gillum's mother. Annie Gillum died on April 25, 1883, of unknown causes.
