Elizabeth Augusta Carr (maiden name: Dawsey) was born to David Dawsey and Malinda Love in Kentucky around August 1852. She married Joseph Carr on December 5, 1878, in Muscatine, Iowa. It is unclear where she met her husband or what brought her to Muscatine. She attended Muscatine’s Bethel AME Church. Her husband died on January 31, 1902. She filed for a pension on February 10, 1902, which she eventually received. For a period of time after the death of her husband, she lived with her niece, Nora A. Taylor. Elizabeth Carr died of complications from an illness on September 13, 1937, after being sick for six months.
