Dear Father Sisters and Brother i write these few lines to you hoping to find you in good health as this leaves me at present i received your letter this afternoon from the Captian and i was glad to hear from you and i received 1 dollar from you which i needed for you can spend plenty of money here for there is 2 sutler here and you tell me and you tell me you received no relief money but i will the Captian but i have no time now for it is night we made a nother on last Sunday afternoon about 500 yards on top of a hill and it is a better place there is 2 more Regiment here before us one a German and another a Pensylvania the country is surrounded / by men for miles we belong to Gen. Casy Brigade we have enough to eat now we have meat 2 a day and a loaf a bread a day and coffee twice a day and soup 1 a day i see no one here that i know we expect to remain in tents all winter but i expect it will be over in 2 months i was glad you sent me some stamps we dont know the minute we have to march we have to drill very hard now about 6 hours a day and we cant go to the city without a pass from the Colonel nor the Captians ether the Chaplian goes every morning to Washington and brings letters with him for Co F and comes up in the afternoon with letters for the camp
