Dear Father Sisters and brother i write these few lines to you hoping to find you in good health as this leaves me at preasent i would have wrote sooner only because i was wating for the box i received your letter on last Sunday and the box on last Tuesday evening with all things safe i would have received the box sooner because the wagons had a great deal of work to do i liked the suages first rate and the gin to you might have not sent the towel for when we come to march i dont know i will carry them i want to have as little things as possible to carry we had a snow storm on last monday it lasted all day and it verry bad on / the feet we have had verry bad weather this last 3 weeks continually raining and sleeting i bought a pair of cork soles for 25 cts they are first rate and i got my shoes mended a great many has boots here this is the mudist hole that ever i put my foot on the Sacred soil of Virginia we are going on picket on next Saturday for 4 days to relieve the 53 Pensylvania so the suages will come good i also kept a little of gin i received the Murcury this afternoon i get it every week that box must cost you some money i wish it was summer for there no difference here than New York cold feet all the time and wet Send me a nother of those likeness to me there a great many goes to Alexandria to get them taken / they charge 75 cents
 
the people in Alexandria are making plenty of money

the letter carrier belongs to the Regt he takes the letters every morning to Alexandria and brings the others to camp
