George Obousier
George (Gottlieb) Obousier was born on May 4, 1825 in Lausanne, Switzerland. He immigrated to America in 1848, arriving in New York on October 10. He eventually moved to Massachusetts, and he was naturalized there on December 27, 1852. He moved to Tell, Indiana, sometime before 1860 and married Marianne Golay. By the early 1860s, he was working as a painter.

He enlisted in the Union army on February 1, 1862, and mustered in as a private in Company A of the 60th Indiana Infantry. The regiment took part in the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou, the Siege of Vicksburg, the Jackson Expedition, and the Red River Campaign, and he was wounded in the Battle of Bayou Bourbeux on November 3, 1863. He mustered out on April 13, 1865, and returned home to Indiana. He applied for a federal pension in March 1879 and eventually secured one. His wife apparently died sometime before 1880, and he passed away in Tell City in October 1890.
