Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Executive Department.
Boston, August 19 1863

Colonel Francis J. Parker
late of 32nd Regt. Mass. Vols.
Sir.
I am directed by His Excellency the Governor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 12th, inquiring whether it is probable that your "services will be again desirable in a military capacity to the State"

While, of course, it is not impossible that the services of every good citizen may be desired at some future time and those of every experienced officer absolutely required by the exigencies / of the public service, His Excellency knows of no position at this time which he could offer for your acceptance, such as a due regard to your services already rendered would seem to require.

I have the honor to be
Very respectfully
Your obt. servant.
H. Ware
Asst Mil Secretary
