Isaiah F. Hoyt to Francis J. Parker, 2 April 1864
Head Quarters 32d Mass. Vols.
Liberty Va. Apl. 2nd /1864.
My dear Col.,
Some of my first returns were not made secundem artem and your autograph upon the inclosed will leave nothing to be desired. Would to Heaven you were the Officer in command today—"Something too much of this" Today we have a snow storm and the landscape looks wintry enough. Col. Sweitzer resigns in consequence of losing command of the Brigade. It will undoubtedly be accepted altho he told me Gen. Mead tried to persuade him to remain—Altho' a non-combatant I look forward with great anxiety to the coming campaign for we cannot hope to escape the present coming summer with as little loss as the last. We can't move for a fortnight and why can't you run down for a few days You shall have comfortable Qrs. and a hearty welcome.
Yrs in haste
Isaiah F. Hoyt
