Friends at homb I thought that I would wright afew lines to lett you now that I am well and hop that you ar the saim I sopos you feal very bad to hear that I enlistad but it is the best thing that I can do I hav enlistad in the 1 mass artillery it is stationed to washington I may git a furlow befor 3 years ar out if I can get a furlow I shall comb homb but you must not loock for me but if I comb i shall comb within a copal of months I shall send homb my bounty for you to tak cair of and use what you want / for when I comb homb I may want sum if I am woundad or sick but if I ever comb but you now that it was the best thing that I could do and if you want to see me Farther I will wright and lett you no whre I am stationd they one lett any one comb on to the island without a pass and if they would giv a pass we ar agoing to leav this week we git $327.00 down and I shall send 275.00 homb it rains lik the old hary I was on pickit last night it was very plesant and so i dont hav any thing to do do to day
